Last Week of Summer 2011

Being a pharmacy major is strange. While most of my friends are getting ready to start their last year of classes tomorrow, I'm getting ready to start my 4th year of college, but still have 2 more years after that. It's the feeling of the end, but then at the same time knowing that I'm really only half-way done with school. I think being in a sorority also makes these feelings of it being the last whatever more real. After this year I will be an alum, and not an active member. Enough of my rambling.

Here's a list of the highlights (that I can remember) of this week:
  • Moved into exec wing of the house and am now in sun porch
  • Got to see all of my sisters that I haven't seen in months
  • Had recruitment counselor training all week and am really excited to get my group of women to help guide through the recruitment process
  • Hung out at Michelle's apartment
  • I was a lifeguard all week at the bell center and also for the football team [also learned that these football men still act like 12 year old's when they're around water, noodles, and kickboards]
  • Had some bonding with the recruitment counselors that included: dinner, ice cream, and a scavenger hunt
  • Babysat for the Miller's
  • Dressed up as Harry Potter and freaked people out in sun porch :)
  • Met up with some IV people and started thinking about the school year and planning
  • Finished the book Radical [awesome read and I'll probably do a post about it later (maybe?)]
  • Went out with some people and had my first experience at one of the campus bars Dublin
  • Was a lifeguard at another pool in West Des Moines for their last weekend of being open and also had my first real save as a lifeguard
  • Went to the state fair with Sarah and Michelle there:
    • we visited Texas
    • saw some animals
    • I ate butter on a stick, a corn dog, and had a strawberry smoothie
    • Michelle got tricked by a high school boy who had her press a laser pointer and the button shocked her
    • Sarah rode a ride; then all 3 of us rode another one
  • Watched random shows and movies in upper liv
Here are some pics from my second trip to the state fair:

"Kwikade, like gatorade....but cheaper"

On Saturday the family all went to the state fair and had a good time. I tried some of the red velvet funnel cake. It was pretty good. Not that different than normal funnel cake, but of course I had to try it. We honestly didn't eat that much at the fair. We did have to have some chocolate chip cookies, and then I had a chicken sandwich thing. We mostly just walked around and saw all of the different buildings and displays. We didn't make it around the whole fair, but saw a good chunk. This year was the 100th year of the butter cow so there were 100 painted cows around the fairgrounds. We only found 14 in the areas we were at (so we kind of failed), but here are the pictures of our 14% of the cows at the fair.

Visiting Home

Last Tuesday (Aug. 9th) after lifeguarding I packed my car and went home for a few days. It was great to see some friends, relax, and catch up with my family. Here is a list of the things I did while home:
  • Went to water aerobics with my mom and caught up with Sarah (I learned she's graduating in Dec. so that's pretty exciting for her)
  • Went on a walk with my mom, Kris, and Paige.
  • Finished Gilmore Girls season 2
  • Started and finished "The Help" (now I want to see the movie)
  • Caught up with Traci and hung out with her for a couple of days
  • Went to a jewelry party with Traci and her mom
  • Also went shopping around Hampton and caught up with my pharmacy co-workers and found out what's new in their lives.
  • Went camping with my family in Jewell
  • Went to the state fair (post on that next)
  • Took Isaac to school and helped him carry his one load up the stairs
  • Monday before I moved in I got to go college shopping with Carina and my mom
I think those are all the things I did at home. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things. It was a great little break from my life in Des Moines and I enjoyed hanging out with Traci. I wish that I would have planned it better so more of my friends would have been home, but o well that's how it goes.

Worship Wednesday (day late)- "You Are More"

Sorry I forgot to post this yesterday. Also I'll soon write a couple of posts about the last couple weeks of summer I've just been busy, moving, etc. so I haven't had time.

I've posted this song before I believe, but it's a good one and in honor of me possibly going to their concert at the fair on Sunday I decided to post it.

Worship Wednesday- "Beautiful Things"

Sometimes it's good to be reminded that we are all a beautiful creation made by God.

Sibling Night

On Saturday night Isaac and Carina came to Des Moines after work and we went along with the Nikki's to HP7 in Imax. It was my first real movie to watch in Imax [I've only seen nature movies]. It was good to see it again as it's of course an amazing movie. I thought it was going to be in 3d, but it wasn't so my siblings were a little upset about that. After the movie I made us all takes pictures by the posters (everyone else was pretty enthused about this as well). I was going to take pictures at the premier, but Courtney got to excited about leaving so we didn't take any.

After the movie we went to Dahl's to get some supplies for dinner that I needed to add. I made trader joe's tortellini with pesto. The pesto wasn't our favorite, but it wasn't awful. Then we also had salad with feta cheese along with garlic bread. It was a nice little meal for our little sibling family and I was the good big sis making the food for them.

We then watching some tv before going to bed. We had a little sleepover in my room (because I sort of made them). Carina was kind of a lame-o and went right to bed. In the morning I made them pancakes and they left so she could get back for work.

It was a good night to hang out with my siblings. I loved catching up with them and getting to spend the night together since we haven't all 3 been together in about a month.

Here's some pictures of our moving.
