What I do for fun

The other day Erin and I decided to try and do our hair up in a top bun. It was a lot of fun also taking pictures with our new up-dos. Also the perks of living in a sorority to have people to 1. do your hair like this and 2. many others in the house who get to see it.

I'm not sure exactly where we will wear this nice new hairstyle, but I'm sure we'll find a place. So please look below and enjoy the myspace-like mirror pics.

Also my hair was not wet/this greasy. Somehow with the flash/lighting/etc it looked this gross.

Bible Study

I am so thankful for the DG Bible study. I'm glad it's given me the opportunity to grow closer to some of my sisters in the house that I'm not sure I would have if we weren't all interested in growing in our relationship with God. This week past Sunday we had a great study. We started off watching a NOOMA video and then got talking about some great stuff.

I'm so grateful for these group of women that we can really talk about what's going on in our lives. How we're feeling, what struggles we've had recently, what's been exciting in our lives, etc. It's so nice to have a group of people that I can feel comfortable talking with and also be real, raw, and honest.

I think that our conversation was just that on Sunday. We all really shared what is going on in our lives and also realized that we are really all in similar places. I think a lot of times the Devil likes to make us think that we are the only ones going through this and no one else would understand. But when we allow ourselves to be vulnerable with each other then we can see that everyone deals with a lot of the same stuff. We're all college-aged women trying to figure out our paths in life, all busy being involved in a sorority, etc.

Again I'm just so thankful that:
1. I decided to join a sorority 4 years ago, I had no idea how much of an impact it would have on my college experience and the life-long friends I would make
2. That Beth Ann decided to start the Bible Study my sophomore year
3. To know that we've continued the study and also all of the great women that have been coming this year

I've truly loved how my sorority life and "Christian" life have blended together so well these past 2 years. I also can't wait to see what kinds of thing we'll talk about for the remainder of the semester and really hope that we can continue to be vulnerable with each other.

Mom's Weekend

Last weekend was mom's weekend for DG. My mom came down on Saturday. It was really nice to spend the whole day with her and to also meet some of my friends moms. It was a pretty busy day for us. When she got here we had a bbq at the house and then I gave her an official house tour. After that we chatted with Erin and her mom for a bit in our room before we went to Ankeny to do pottery. We each painted some pottery. I'll try and take a picture of it when we get it back on Saturday. I painted a mug and my mom painted a flower. Then we went to shopping at Target and Jordan Creek. After that we picked up Courtney and went to Boston's to eat before we each went back to our houses.

It was really great to spend time with my mom and just talk with her. I'm lucky that I see her often, but it still great to spend a whole day together rather than just a meal. I'm really glad that DG does things like this otherwise I probably wouldn't spend that long with my mom unless I went home.

You're Always Wearing Your Letters

Here's a video someone posted recently that I think was a great reminder to everyone in a sorority/fraternity and what it really means to be a part of these wonderful organizations.

Sisterhood Skating

Friday after work I head to Brenton Skating Plaza for some sisterhood ice skating. It was pretty cold and I couldn't feel my thighs or legs, but it was still really fun. I only ended up staying for about an hour and I didn't fall once so I was excited about that.

After ice skating Courtney, Nikki, Nikki, Autumn, Sarah and I were all going to go to the movie The Vow. We got there and it was sold out. Courtney and I got tickets from fandango and so we were able to get in. Autumn and Sarah came and picked up the Nikki's and they went to a different theater. I really enjoyed the movie. The ending was different than I expected, which is what a lot of people have said, but it was still a great movie.

What I learned in the first week of winter semester

  • I like living in small dorm (besides my squeaky bed)
  • I may actually enjoy team based learning (that is still TBD)
  • I need to stay on top of my homework so I don't get behind
  • I'm enjoying not having a position in DG anymore and having more free time
  • It was great to be back at Intervarsity and have a lot of DGs there with me
  • Being back at Hope for church today was really nice
  • Headbands/hats are very important for you walk in the early mornings to class so your ears don't freeze off
  • You can actually shower/get ready for class if you don't hit the snooze button
  • Laying out your clothes/getting your bag packed also helps with the above
  • I now know the beginnings of how to treat a cold, cough, and allergies
  • The sampler at BWW is actually very big and is made for 2 people
  • Re-heated said sampler is hard when the breaker keeps getting tripped on the toaster oven
  • 8 am class everyday is that bad (we'll see how I feel about this in a couple weeks)
  • I'm Sexy and I Know It is on the radio a lot even though I didn't notice this until very recently thanks to Traci
  • My sister is now in a sorority (Pi Phi) and Erin's sister prefed her!
